Freelancing in Uganda

Casey and Sarah's life and travels in the heart of Africa.

Addis A-blahblah

I kid. The city is beautiful from the air!

Sarah and I have to hop on one more hour and some-odd flight to Entebbe International and we’re finally in Uganda. Once we’re there, we’re gonna get some sleep at Makerere University guesthouse, find some cheap SIM cards to put in our phones (fingers crossed for BBM in Uganda) and get some cheap generic anti-malarials.

Speaking of generic drugs, I blasted through James Orbinski’s An Imperfect Offering on the past couple of flights while Sarah slept -_-. Even though MSF’s work in Uganda was somewhat limited compared to their work in Rwanda/Somalia/Sudan in the 90s, it really gave some unexpected context for this trip.

As for Bole International in Addis, transferers were taken off the plane, escorted to a shuttle bus and driven on literally a 30 second bus ride that was no more than 150 metres away to another part of the terminal. I would hate to have that bus driver’s job…

Sarah and I are in a lounge with what looks like used furniture. I’m sure Sarah will take a picture with her Nikon soon and we’ll put that up, because frankly, it’s both the best and somewhat disconcerting thing at the same time. You’ll get it once you see the picture.

Oh! And the smell of the airport is delicious. You can tell that the coffee is good.

Anyways, I’ve gotta brush my teeth.
