Waragi
Nothing out of the ordinary at TASO this week, aside from a sports gala on Wednesday that Ellie and I attended. Ellie, along with other TASO employees had tried to plan this event for two weeks, but due to the stupidly overwhelming amount of bureaucracy at TASO we were still running around the day of the event getting organized. We ended up being 5 hours late, without a PA system, without prizes, and in the middle of a torrential downpour. The day was stressful and disorganized and money was wasted but over 100 people were tested for HIV, the football (soccer) and netball players had fun and got fed, so in that sense it was successful.
Last night a group of us went to BJZ for trivia night but unfortunately we came short of winning the crate of beer… we had three less points than the winning team… and I’m not judging but they probably used their smart phones. Anyway, the night was great. I tried Waragi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waragi) for the first time. It’s a sort of Ugandan moonshine…needless to say I was two hours late coming into TASO today.
Uganda doesn’t have as much liquor as back home… I remember Casey asking for a jagerbomb at a club in Kampala. They had never even heard of jager. What Uganda does have is the best name for a vodka coke I’ve ever heard…”Black Swagga’” I admit that I’m a bit apprehensive about using this term in Canada. I got my back swagga’ on last night though. I’m getting pretty incredible at shaking my booty. Tonight will be a very early night. Casey, Jacob and I are getting up bright and early for Murchison Falls National Park, a favourite of Sir Winston Churchill apparently. We’ll take a Nile tour on Saturday, hike up the falls, stay over in the park and take the game drive on Sunday. I should get myself a safari vest and kakis before it’s too late!
