Ethiopian New Years

Sarah and I decided to hit up a blogger favourite last night at Classic Ethiopian here in Gulu. What we didn’t realize was that September 11th is Ethiopian New Years.

Did Sarah and I think there was a birthday party happening that we weren’t invited to? Yes.

Regardless, the (prepare your Google/Wikipedia skills) injera that we used to mop up all of our various wat was beyond delicious. It was definitely foodie heaven. Also, no utensils. Pretty much a culinary dream of mine for a while.

Also, yesterday really hit home how inviting everyone we’ve encountered here truly are. The woman who ran the restaurant pretty much invited us in with open arms even though we were the only Muzungus who decided to come out for Ethiopian New Years (who wouldn’t?). The only real cold shoulders I’ve gotten were from fellow foreigners at a coffee shop. Look; I understand that you think you’re saving the world with your web design you’re doing for a NGO, but at least acknowledge the fact I’m asking you a question.

Also, day three without running water. Thankfully, there’s the modern marvel of dry shampoo.

We’ll upload some pics from Sarah’s Blackberry and Nikon very soon.
